Areas of Expertise

Forensic engineering is one of our strongest areas of practice. Why? We have many advantages over the vast majority of the practitioners in the field.

A key benefit to using our firm is the fact that, unlike many forensic engineering firms, we are also a practicing engineering firm. We are designing and consulting on HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems every day. It is likely that any given day we are working on design and construction issues relative to office buildings (low and high-rise), shopping centers, single family residential, multi-family residential (low and high-rise), restaurants, industrial, medical office, and institutional projects. We are fresh and up to date on current codes, industry practices, and industry standard of care. Many of the expert witnesses currently in practice have not designed a system for many, many years.

Because Fruchtman and Associates also provides full service engineering and design services we have a full complement of designers, engineers, and administrative staff members. When we perform forensic assignments, we utilize the services of the appropriate staff members for each task. Hence, when a forensic project requires technical research, portions of this effort may be done by a designer or an engineer. When presentations are prepared, and invoices and bills are prepared, an administrative assistant assists in performing these functions. Because we bill at the rates of these staff members for their services, rather than the higher rates of the expert, we are able to pass a considerable amount of savings on to the client.

David Fruchtman received his B.S. in Mechanical engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1979 and graduated Cum Laude. He completed graduate level Mechanical Engineering courses at Columbia University in 1981, is a licensed Professional Engineer in the States of California, Nevada, and Arizona, and is NCEES (National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Land Surveyors) Certified. He is a CEM (Certified Energy Manager). He is also an IAPMO (International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials) Certified Mechanical Inspector and IAPMO Certified Plumbing Inspector.

David has extensive experience in the design of mechanical systems of buildings of all types. He has consulted on and designed state of the art facilities and innovative systems across the country.

Professional Experience

Fruchtman and Associates was formed in 1986 by David J. Fruchtman, PE. We provide design and engineering as well as forensic and expert witness services for more than 100 projects per year.

We make every effort to maintain high quality services by developing and maintaining an extensive and ever growing library of standard details, schematic diagrams, equipment schedules, and product specifications. We are continually fine tuning and updating these standards to provide office wide standardization and accuracy. We maintain a rigorous in-house review process to ensure that all projects are checked and re-checked before issuing.

Our extensive design experience continues to keep us abreast of the relevant codes, standards, local requirements, and state-of-the-art practices. This enhances our knowledge base and makes us more up to date and credible as expert witnesses.

Our expert witness experience also assists us in our design practice. By assisting our insurance and forensic clients in troubleshooting installation problems, equipment failures, and or contract disputes, we have learned a tremendous amount about the nuances of the design and construction process. This has educated us, and assists us in developing our in-house standards which help our design projects move more smoothly and efficiently.

We conduct ourselves professionally and ethically. This has contributed to a client base which comes back to us project after project, year after year.
