Business valuation professionals are often called upon as expert witnesses in many types of litigation such as: personal injury, family law, shareholder disputes, lost profits calculations, and failed mergers and acquisitions. These experts determine the value of a business or how much value has been lost as a result of the events giving rise to the litigation. While business valuation experts will generally have degrees in accounting and/or finance related fields, they should also have appropriate certifications from one or more national organizations such as the American Society of Appraisers or the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
