Diagnostic Radiology is the interpretation of images of the body to diagnose disease. Radiologic techniques include traditional x-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, and procedures for specific body parts, such as mammography for breast imaging. Many radiologists have subspecialty expertise in, for example, musculoskeletal radiology, pediatric radiology, neuroradiology, cardiovascular radiology, etc. Interventional radiologists specialize in the use of radiologic imaging to guide the placement of wires, catheters, and other instruments inside a patient to diagnose or treat disease. Interventional radiology is used for stent placement, central line insertion, biopsy, uterine fibroid removal and many other procedures.
