Pain management is process of providing medical care to reduce pain and suffering, and to help patients achieve a reasonable quality of life. Mild to moderate pain can usually be treated with analgesic medications, such as aspirin or ibuprofen. For chronic or severe pain, opiates and other narcotics are often used, sometimes along with analgesics or with anti-depressants, which affect the brains perception of pain.
