Due to her experience with these investigations, Ms. Isom Malin was selected to serve as a subject matter expert and criminal profiler at the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) for over a decade. In this capacity, she expanded her knowledge and assisted law enforcement agencies around the world in cases involving missing/abducted children, child homicide, child exploitation via the Internet, sexual abuse of children, institutional child sexual abuse, child torture, equivocal death and animal abuse/cruelty. She has authored countless criminal affidavits, led search and arrest operations, and testified before Grand Juries, as well as in local, state, and federal criminal proceedings. Ms. Isom Malin has been qualified as an expert on child sex offender grooming behavior in U.S. District Court.

In the FBI's Los Angeles Division, Ms. Isom Malin served as primary case agent on two FBI National Initiatives – Innocent Images, an initiative targeting those who sexually exploit children via the Internet; and Innocence Lost, an initiative that targeted those involved in the commercial sexual exploitation of children. She was a member of the FBI's Evidence Response Team (ERT) and also engaged in undercover communications as part of her role as a certified Online Covert Employee. Ms. Isom Malin was the lead case agent on Operation Lost Boy, an investigation into a secret, online message board dedicated to the sexual abuse and exploitation of boys. The indictment of 35 members and arrests of 16 men under the federal Child Exploitation Enterprise statute was the first of its kind in the Central District of California and only the second use of the statute in the United States. The investigation resulted in spin-off investigations around the world and the recovery of hundreds of victims of child sexual abuse and online exploitation. Ms. Isom Malin appeared in Operation Lost Boy, a documentary about the case produced by Mothership Entertainment in 2023.

During her time at the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit, Ms. Isom Malin participated in research on several topics including child abduction homicide; juvenile offenders responsible for the abduction, sexual assault and/or murder of a child; and 911 calls in missing child investigations. She co-authored law enforcement guides and articles during her tenure and remains engaged in authoring manuscripts documenting the results of this research. Ms. Isom Malin assisted on numerous cases involving offenders in a position of trust and served as a lead BAU agent on a team assigned to assist the United States Office of Attorney General in its Grand Jury investigations of members of seven Roman Catholic Church Dioceses within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In those investigations, Ms. Isom Malin reviewed thousands of documents seized from the secret archives and prepared detailed reports regarding grooming behaviors used by offenders and inaction/action taken by leadership that enabled offender conduct. She testified in Grand Jury proceedings where she assisted the jury in understanding child sex offender grooming behavior, using demonstratives and specific examples from the secret archives, and opined about the conduct of leadership and its impact on the victims as well as on the offender's behavior.

Due to her expertise in the area of crimes against children, Ms. Isom Malin was often asked to participate in consultations in all BAU units including cases involving missing adults, crimes against adult victims, persons of concern/threat assessments, and national security. She was a member of the BAU's Statement Analysis Group, therein analyzing 911 calls and written statements obtained in criminal investigations. Example cases include equivocal death investigations, homicides, missing child investigations, threatening communications, etc. Ms. Isom Malin also served as Course Manager for the Criminal Investigative Analysis Training Program - a 400+ hour curriculum for profilers new to the BAUs.
