Dr. Francis completed her post-graduate fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at the University of California San Francisco Langley Porter Institute in 2002. She received her medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1991 and completed residency training at Sheppard Pratt Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Francis is in private practice in Wilmington North Carolina. She has over 25 years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of psychiatric disorders in various settings including civil and forensic hospitals, outpatient clinics, detoxification units, nursing homes, jails and prisons.

Dr. Francis has performed numerous civil and criminal forensic psychiatric evaluations, and has been qualified as an expert in the field of psychiatry in depositions and in court. She is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the American Academy of Psychiatry and Law.

Her forensic areas of interest include civil and criminal competencies, criminal responsibility, psychiatric injury, and evaluations related to testamentary capacity and undue influence.
