Professional Experience

Dr. Lavian has a diverse background in academic research, university teaching, high-tech industry research, development, and consulting. He has served as the principal investigator for three US Department of Defense (DARPA) projects and directed a wireless research project for a US federal agency. He has also worked as a principal scientist at Nortel Labs, where he served as the technical chair of the Patent Committee for Nortel Networks' EDN. Dr. Lavian has held visiting positions at UC Berkeley's RAD Lab and served as the Technical co-Chair of IEEE Interconnects at Stanford University.

Throughout his career, Dr. Lavian has designed and developed a range of networking equipment, including switches, routers, gateways, and network applications. He has expertise in the development of communication systems and network architectures. In addition to his contributions to the field, Dr. Lavian has made several notable achievements, including leading the development of the first network resource-scheduling service for grid computing and creating the first demonstrated dynamic transatlantic allocation of 10Gbs Lambdas as a grid service.
