The Legal Nurse Consulting Group

The Legal Nurse Consultant Group, under the direction of Jan Attard, RN IV, RNC-MNN, CLNC, MBA, 1L, provides comprehensive, timely, thorough opinions for attorneys, insurance companies, and medical groups regarding the merit of malpractice actions, nursing negligence, personal injury, criminal, forensic, and sexual assault cases for trial. Jan performs life care plans and participates in DME exams.

Jan will analyze the medical records for the incident that formed the basis of the action, rendering a timeline and giving verbal opinions to Plaintiff and Defense. Jan assists with the discovery process, factual interpretation, education, reconstruction, and visual presentation to develop the demonstrative evidence that is relevant, reliable, and real along with research rendering best source information, and the on point citations of authoritative literature.

Jan provides factual implications blending art and science, applying the reasonable standard of care for a nurse in the same or similar circumstances in a complex and high-risk obstetric and neonatal case related to foreseeable duty, breach of duty, causation, and damages. When Jan evaluates a case for merit, Jan evaluates Quality Care, Risk Management, Management Involvement, and Staffing Ratios.

Our mission is to provide a focused, clear, concise interpretation of facts for the client. We consult prior to trial with analysis and case interpretation to review the medical and legal case, create a timeline, discover the strengths and weaknesses, create PowerPoint visuals, identify discrepancies, research, and analyze cases. We integrate factual timelines with visually appealing trial exhibits and case chronologies. We apply the same serious approach to testifying as we do when caring for a high-risk patient. Jan evaluates evidence, guidelines, rules and regulations. The Nurse Practice Act is reviewed along with Hospital Standards of Care and Policy and Procedures, ACOG regulations which drive Nursing Actions.

The Legal Nurse Consulting Group will save you time and money assessing the merits of your case to provide a thorough detailed chronology of medical events involved, define applicable standards of care, define deviations from and adherences to applicable standards of care, assess alleged damages and/or injuries, identify factors that caused or contributed to alleged damages and/or injuries, identify and recommend potential defendants.

The Legal Nurse Consulting Group will provide Qualified Experts who possesses the clinical expertise required to speak to new medical developments, techniques and technologies acting as Expert in the areas of Obstetrics, Neonatology, Emergency Medicine and Pediatric Nursing in a competitive credibility battle preparing for deposition, trial and servicing as an expert witness testifying to the standard of care.

- Discovery & Court Preparation
The Legal Nurse Consulting Group will apply nursing experience and expertise to make sure you have the crucial facts and explanations, which is the difference between winning and losing your case to assist with deposition and trial questions, help prepare interrogatories, create demonstrative evidence and visual presentation and attend deposition, trial and review panels, arbitration and mediation hearings.

Litigation Support Services

Jan acts as Testifying Expert for Defense and Plaintiff equally. She communicates with your firm and provides excellent review, research, and analysis to help you make a difference for your firm and your clients.

• Review and screen cases to keep you from wasting time and resources on non-meritorious cases.
• Review and analyze medical records for deviations from medical and nursing Standard of Care
• Summarize the medical record and prepare a brief opinion report to bolster your position.

Jan seeks to manage risk, identify equivocal indicators for stress, manage risk and minimize liability by effective risk management and reporting up the chain of command.

Jan mentors and empowers students as an Adjunct Professor at Lucile Salter Packard Stanford Children's Hospital. Jan is passionate about pursuing Justice, Equity, and Equality in Health Care.
